We offer our machine because CNC technology opens up a whole new world of making capabilities, especially to those who have a limited shop environment or budget. Our goal is to empower you by giving you access to both a machine that’s capable of a wide range of projects, and by assuring you of the assistance that you’ll receive from our team as well as our ever-growing community of machine owners: many of whom started off green to the world of CNC as well but are now happy to share what they’ve learned along the way. We designed the LongMill to be the best hobby CNC router in its class, offering rigidity, and reliability, while being easy to put together. With large extruded aluminum rails, fully supported Y-axes, 1/4″ steel gantries on all axes, and high precision MG-12 type linear guides on the Z-axis, the LongMill is the most powerful CNC router in its class and price point.

Assembly only takes a few hours and can be done with a set of wrenches, Allen keys, and a flat head screwdriver. There is absolutely no soldering. We’ve spent thousands of hours designing and testing the LongMill to ensure that this machine is easy to put together. If you can put together IKEA furniture, then putting together the LongMill will be a breeze.

What do you provide?

  • Your own wasteboard/spoilboard (found at your local hardware store), this is the surface that you’ll be mounting your machine to. See the ‘Size’ tab above for more info.
  • A router (purchase one from us, use one you already have, or find one at your local hardware store/online)*
  • Tools to assemble the machine (wrenches, Allen keys, flat head screwdriver)

For routers, we recommend the Makita RT0700/RT0701. It’s reliable, powerful, is speed-adjustable to a large range (10-30K RPM), and its uniform outer body allows for versatile z-axis mounting. We’ve been using the Makita on our CNC machines for years.

There are some other compatible trim routers on the market that you could use – bear in mind we haven’t tested any of these in-depth:

  • Dewalt DWP611 (uses 71mm mount)
  • Carbide 3D Compact Router (uses 65mm mount)
  • Avid Power MW104 (uses 65mm mount)
  • MLCS Rocky 30 9056 (uses 65mm mount)
  • Ridgid R2401 (needs to adapt from 61mm to our 80mm mount to clear it’s ~6x15mm protruding body notch)
  • Bosch Colt PR20EVS (uses 71mm mount but sits much higher up than normal, you’ll have to space up your material)
  • Bosch Colt GKF125 (needs to adapt from 72mm to our 80mm mount, also sits much higher up than normal)

The LongMill can accommodate bore sizes of 52, 65, 71, and 80mm,  Don’t see your router listed? Let us know the diameter of your router so that we can make an adapter.

*Routers that we supply will be 110V only (North America). If you live in a country that uses a different voltage, please purchase a router in your region. LongMills will come with a power supply that supports both 110V and 220V.

The LongMill comes with free software and is compatible with dozens of other paid and free software. Try our Toolchain Wizard to get a quick recommendation for software that may work best for you.

Once assembled, each model of the LongMill (12×12, 12×30, and 30×30) is designed to generally fit on a 2×2′, 2×4′, and 4×4′ surface respectively. The diagrams below show a more detailed view for each model:
  • The red area inside the main box shows the cutting area as an offset from the foot base. It’s based off the center-point of the router, thus you can plane an area larger than what’s stated if you’re using a large surfacing bit.
  • The blue area outside the main box shows the hanging parts as an offset from the foot base which makes up the total machine outline.
  • If you have the dust shoe attachment in place, it’ll reduce your cutting travel in the X-dimension by approximately 50mm.

Machine height About 14″, but if you’re planning to build an enclosure you should make it at least 20″ tall to ensure enough space for hose management, manipulating cutting material, etc.
If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc.. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows for you to connect your computer to control the machine. By default the clearance height under the X-axis rail is 104mm (~4″) so if you’d like to take advantage of the full 113mm (~4.5″) of Z-axis travel that the LongMill has to offer, the feet can be spaced up by two strips of material on each side to gain more height clearance. You can include add-ons to improve the functionality of the LongMill. These are all optional.

Trim Router

We recommend using the Makita RT0700/RT0701 router 110V with your LongMill. This router comes with speed control from 10,000 to 30,000RPM and has 1.25HP of power. This router is compatible with 1/4″ shank tooling and can be adapted to 1/8″ shank tooling using a 1/4″ to 1/8″ collet adapter.

Dust Shoe

Our Z-axis independent, magnetic dust shoe allows you to attach standard vacuum hoses to your CNC machine, allowing it to suck up dust as it’s cutting, making clean up easier and keeping dust out of the air. This dust shoe is adjustable in the Z direction, and the front bristles and vacuum hose can be easily detached to make it easy to change bits.

Touch Plate

Our 3-axis touch plate allows you to set the ‘origin’ or starting point of your cutting tool very accurately based off the surface of the material you’re going to be cutting. Place the touch plate onto the corner of the material to locate the cutting bit in both X, Y, and Z-directions to start your cutting job, or use it to set the Z-height of the tool to accomplish tool changes on more complicated projects.

Bit Starter kit

Our End Mill Starter Pack comes with a basic set of end mills to get your started for many projects you might have in mind. Each pack comes with:
  • 1/4″ Spiral Up Cut End Mill
  • 1/4″ Spiral Down Cut End Mill
  • 1/8″ Flat End Mill (x3)
  • 1/8″ Ballnose End Mill (x3)
  • 1/4″ to 1/8″ Collet Adapter


What materials can it cut?

The LongMill can cut materials like wood, plastic, foam, and soft metals. We’ve also had customer cut tougher materials like thin stainless steel and copper sheet.

Where can I buy end mills and other tooling?

End mills and bits are available on sale on our website as well as online such as Amazon and Ebay, or at your local hardware store such as Home Depot or Lee Valley.

What software can you use with the LongMill?

The LongMill is compatible with dozens of free and paid CAM software. The LongMill is compatible with standard G-code. You can check out our resources page at www.sienci.com/resources and look under the software tab. We’ll be hosting webinars and creating additional resource videos to help you learn to design and program your CNC machine.

What system requirements are there?

You can run your machine off virtually any modern laptop made in the last 5 years running Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

We’ve tested our machine with Intel Celeron and AMD Phenom processors with less than 2GB of RAM with no issues (although it is a bit slow).

For any other downloadable CAD or CAM programs that don’t run on the cloud, please check with the software creator for minimum system requirements.

What spindles or routers can I use?

While we recommend the Makita RT0701/RT0700, you can also use other trim/palm style routers. You will be able to let us know what tool you want to use and we will send you the appropriate mount.

Can I add end stops?

Although end stops are not needed on this machine, they can be added. Our electronics support end stops and is easy to integrate.

We’ll have more details on adding end stops soon.

Will there be 4th or 5th axis support?

In the immediate future, there will not be 4th or 5th axis support for the LongMill.

If you would like to implement an additional axis to your machine, we encourage users to try creating their own and sharing it with the community!


The LongMill has a 90 day warranty once it’s received.

We want you to have a great experience with your machine, so if any parts are found to be missing or damaged, please email us. We will ensure that you receive the support you need to restore your LongMill to operating condition or provide a full or partial refund.

You may cancel an order if it has not shipped yet, please contact us if you wish to do so. We do not offer returns for LongMills that have already shipped.

General Warranty and Limits of Service:

Effective March 4, 2019

Throughout this policy the words “we”, “us” and “our”, or “Sienci Labs” will be used to refer to Sienci Labs Inc. herein and “LongMill” or “machine” will refer to Sienci Labs’ Sienci LongMill 12×12, Sienci LongMill 12×30 and Sienci LongMill 30×30. Additionally, the words “you”,  “your”, “user”, and “operator”  will refer to the original purchaser/customer, user, or viewer of any of the products or media provided by or through Sienci Labs.

Sienci Labs Inc. (the “Company”) grants the LongMill (the “Product”) a standard warranty within Canada and the US to the original customer to be free from missing parts, defects in material, and defects in workmanship for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of receipt by the original purchaser. Sienci Labs Inc. will ensure that the appropriate support is provided to the original customer to restore the LongMill to operational condition or provide a full or partial refund under the sole discretion of the Company.

This warranty does not cover damage due to improper use or assembly, lack of maintenance, normal wear and tear, or modifications to the LongMill which are not produced or authorized by the Company. Consumables such as cutting tools and sample or stock materials which may have come with your LongMill are not included in this warranty.

This warranty will become void if the operator does not follow the Safety Warnings and Guidelines, uses the Product for illegal purposes, or intentionally causes damage to the Product.

The original customer must contact Sienci Labs Inc. within ninety (90) days of receiving their order to make a warranty claim to be eligible for warranty service. Proof of purchase, tracking number, email address, or other material will be used to confirm the original purchasing date and the identity of the original customer. If damage was due to shipping, original packaging materials must be kept in the original received condition. Photos, videos, written descriptions, and other items may be requested to assess and validate a warranty claim.  In the case Sienci Labs Inc. requires the original parts to be returned, the customer is solely responsible for packing all items securely. Damage incurred during return shipping will not be covered by the warranty. A method of payment such as a credit card may be requested by Sienci Labs Inc. to cover shipping costs or damaged items if Products are not eligible for warranty service.

    I am totally new to the CNC world, and I am learning lots. The Longmill works very good. I have some trouble with it dropping connection periodically. I am guessing that it’s a cable issue between the computer and longmill. Aside from that. All is good. Looking forward to making more consistent sawdust.

    First and foremost, it is a beautiful machine and well crafted. No doubt about that. But….here were some issues I found on mine.
    1. I had an issue of constantly sheering my XZ gantry Delrin wheels. First the bearings were constantly and then breaking the wheels, then the wheels themselves were just sheering. After many many replacements, after even completely loosening the eccentric nuts to the point of complete sacrifice in accuracy, I was still having the problem. And then I noticed the last time I took it apart to fix the wheels, there was a high point the aluminum angle rail, dead center. So no matter what, that was a binding point and would cause many breakdowns.
    2. After about a month of usage, for some reason all my step motors started buzzing while the machine was idle. Very loudly. And to this day I have not managed to solve this issue. I know when I first used it, they were dead quiet at idle. So clearly something wrong within that time frame. I’ve checked the arduino, I checked all my connections, I’ve reflagged the firmware and nothing has been able to fix it.

    As I’ve said before. Besides these two main issues that I’ve had, everything else has been perfect. Very solid machine.

    While I have not had as much time as I would like to in using the CNC Router, I’ve enjoyed what time that I have spent with it. I’m excited about the possibilities. I actually quite enjoyed the build process of the CNC Router. The videos were very helpful and now I feel like Chris is a member of our household. 😉

    I enjoy the laid back, yet quality minded approach that your company has. To be honest, I feel like you all are my students here at school. I look forward to seeing the new things that you come up with!

    I do have 1 smallish request . . . please develop a process/video/instructions specific to the Longmil on how to fix tramming problems. I spent several hours trying to tune this in and finally got to a point where I had to say this is good enough for now, just so that I could try the system out.

    building it (and the table we put it on) was a breeze – the directions and the site you’ve developed are A++ the best. we couldn’t be happier; we’ve already made dozens and dozens of things like reliefs of movie posters, cutting boards, family gifts (such as a nice Yankees logo wall hanging piece… and so much more! we’re moving into the 3d realm now (as we’re teaching ourselves cad as we go along) and we just can’t wait! We proudly rock your longmill puppy sticker as well, because we’re just absoluely so proud of all of this and all of you for making this such an awesome experience! (p.s., it’s already paid for itself in profits!) Thank you guys!

    Took me 12 hours to build it and I still don’t have the wires in the drag chain.
    I use mostly laser machines and thought it was easy learning curve is still not there yet. Still trying to find software that I can work with. Still feel like i screwed up building it because I don’t have some moter bolted down because it kept getting in the way of the z asses.

    Love the machine. Took about 3 hours to set up . Welded a table and shimmed to make sure the rails true Within two days of receiving it was up and running. Ordered the T Track set at a later date and was shipped in two days of ordering. Very impressed with the long mill and Sienci labs . Can’t wait to get the laser add on. Main uses are cutting plastic for my side business, but with 1000 board feet of hardwood in my shop gonna venture in more wood products in the near future.

    I am so happy with this company. I love my new CNC. The hardest part about assembly is putting the small nuts into the printed plastic parts. I used a small nut driver and a hammer to install them which was much easier. And what great support team as well.

    I absolutely love my longmill 30×30. The simplicity of assembly along with the power of a brand like Makita, really makes this more than just a hobbyist machine.     I have been very satisfied with the long mill. It took me several hours to put it together but that’s me the instructions were good I just took my time. I didn’t check one set of V wheels on the gantry it caught one of the legs twisted broke my bit and took a chunk out of drive screw . I had to order a new one and got it with in a couple of days I was very happy with quick responses. I have play around with a few projects learning how to do things right this time. I’m satisfied enough that I ordered your laser for my unit , I have a few projects I want to do when it comes in .
    Overall I’m very happy with unit and glad I’m dealing with a Company in the same Province and able to get parts quickly and don’t have to deal with customs.
    Will post my first project once I have one done to show off.

    Highly suggested to buy.
    It is pretty easy to put everything together.
    Only one thing to look into it is some hole on the Y angle aluminum is not quite line up with the hole one the 3D printed brackets. You need to drill and enlarge the hole on the bracket.

    Very happy with the LongMill and would highly recommend it to anyone! Assembly was easy with very thorough and detailed instructions. Amazing customer service from Sienci. A small bag of washers was missing from my kit, was able to get ahold of them right away by phone and the missing parts were received in just a few days. This is my first venture into the world of CNC as a means to expand my guitar business by cutting custom pickguards and developing other forthcoming products. As we continue to grow I know I’ll definitely be coming back for another LongMill when the time is right. Thanks Sienci!

    I had zero experience with any sort of CNC before this.

    Machine assembly was fun, the online resources made things very easy. My only complaint is getting the Delren wheels just right.

    Customer service is spot on!! I had a damaged part and was shipped an replacement right away.

    For now I am playing around making signs. But I do have plans for things like flattening small slabs and epoxy work.

    Love my LongMill!! I started looking at CNC machines several months before I decided to purchase a LongMill.
    I am a woodworker and wanted to get into something new. I seen a lot of projects that were being posted on line and the common denominator was CNC woodworking. Into the research I began. I looked at many YouTube videos, online forums and reviews. I decided on the LongMill for many reasons. There is a great online support: the detailed instructions on assembly, the construction of the machine was the best available and the fact that many people were ditching other machines and going to LongMill and not many going the other directions.

    My LongMill arrived while I was recovering from shoulder surgery. It came weeks earlier than I had expected to see it. With the detailed assembly online I was able to do most of the assembly with one hand. (My wife was called in to help when I needed two hands and to tighten bolts and nut). The assembly was flawless and it was time to test things out. I used the toolchain wizard and went to easel because it was a one stop software and I wanted to be successful at the start. My first project was the sheep and my name. Success!!!

    I really didn’t need customer service much because everything is so well documented and there is such good online support that I haven’t had to use them except for ordering and delivery. That was flawless. I know that when and if I do need them they will be there because that has been my experience so far.

    I am semi retired and don’t consider myself as a computer geek. I have learned by doing and have had great success. I have done some beautiful signs, wooden memory books, as well as other two bit projects. I am getting ready to take the next step and know the LongMill will be there. Thanks to everyone involve in the project.

    When I received my equipment i was scheduled for knee surgery so am out of commission till mid summer when the knee is ok and the garage is warmer to work in. Hence the 3 versus 5 but I am sure I will be pleased with my machine when built. Thank you

    I’m very pleased to have bought a longmill! It’s a complete game changer for me! I had very little software experience going into this task, but in just over two months I’ve designed and made more projects then I could’ve ever imagined. I’ve woodworked for 8 years but this is the final touch that I’ve been looking for. Assembly went beautifully, everything I could ever need is on the Sienci Labs website, and I follow the Facebook page which usually answers any questions I may have. In two months I’ve made everything from laser images and photos to custom 2D/2.5D parts and signs to highly detailed 3D carvings. Coming from 0 experience to putting 100’s of hours on the longmill already, I couldn’t be happier! I now look at any retail store decorations, any and all types of images and other wood art and just think “I can make that now” and not wonder how it was made. Even though the total price of the machine is price competitive/ cheaper than other options, I’ve already concluded that the longmill by Sienci Labs is absolutely priceless to me and I only wish I had bought one sooner! Thank you guys!
