Power Requirements
Altmill with the 1.5kW spindle. We recommend allocating 2x 15A, 110V/120V circuits — one for the spindle, the other for the machine and a computer.
The AltMill consumes 500W and runs off a 48V 10A power supply, 110-120 volt circuit
The 1.5KW Spindle Kit consumes 1500W at max load, 110-120 volt circuit
Altmill with the 2.2kW spindle. We recommend allocating 1x15A, 110V/120V & 1x 20A, 220/240 Circuit — one for the spindle, the other for the machine and a computer.
The AltMill consumes 500W and runs off a 48V 10A power supply, 110-120 volt circuit
The 2.2KW Spindle Kit consumes 2000W at max load, 220-240 volt circuit
If you live in a country with 220V/240V power you must use a transformer to convert to 110V/120V.
To solely run the machine, you need a rating above 500W
To run the machine and a 1.5kW spindle, you need a rating of 2000W
I would like to source my own spindle, what should I be aware of?
For spindles 2.2KW or above, you will need to install extra 220VAC wiring
The AltMill comes with an 80mm spindle mount, we do not have larger diameter mounts at the moment
The VFDs that may work with our controller are: Huanyang v1, Huanyang P2A, Yalang YL620, H-100, and GS20, however they are not plug-and-play — read this article for further information

Amazingly strong and purposeful unit. It was a pleasure assembling it, and great to use. Had a few minor issues with setting up the limits, but nothing that took more than a few minutes to overcome.

I haven’t been able to do anything yet, as I am still waiting for my spindle. I have had the Altmill for 2 months now, set up and ready to go, but still no spindle. I could have gone with an aftermarket spindle, but I don’t like mixing other equipment with something that should be all Canadian

You guys are the best! This machine is truly top of its class based on the comparison videos I’ve seen and my own experience with it thus far. I upgraded from a Longmill to the AltMill 2×4 and the difference in power and rigidity is amazing. I use my AltMill primarily to build bass guitars, which means complicated carves through very thick slabs of hardwood. I’ve carved a couple of necks and fretboards so far, along with some ABS parts, and the results have been fantastic! I’m still finding my way in terms of feeds and speeds, so the closed-loop stepper motors have totally saved my bacon on a couple of occasions! I can’t tell you what a huge asset it is for a CNC to stop itself when it encounters unexpected resistance, instead of running amok and ruining an expensive workpiece that took me hours to dimension and glue up. I also want to thank Sienci for the excellent and economic packaging, the amazing customer support when my shipment ran afoul of customs issues, and the fact that you still managed to beat the promised delivery date by a couple of weeks! Also, the machine was very easy to assemble, even though I recommend taking your time with it and being extra careful. I’m a huge fan of you guys, love your products, love your philosophy and design strategy, and just admire you as a company. Here’s wishing you continued success!

I changed my order from the 2×4 to the 4×4 and I’m glad I did. But that’s just a logistical issue. I am highly impressed by Scenci Labs and my new AltMill 4×4. The AltMill is a very high quality machine and a true bargain. Scenci labs positive attitude, enthusiasm for their products and customer service is very refreshing. You can do your homework , watch all the YouTube videos and spend months agonizing on the best CNC to buy, or you can save some time and just pull the trigger on a new AltMill. You will not regret your decision.

Could not use it for now as I don’t have the spindle needed to operate it. Ordered it and waiting! I knew it would be the case when I ordered the Spindle. I may use a router while waiting for the spindle to arrive but I need to make an adapter to do so.

This machine is awesome! I had a cheaper desktop machine before I bought my altmill 4×2. I’m still a newbie at CNC but felt the cheaper machine was holding me back and felt like a toy. After getting my altmill I felt like I had nothing holding me back and had a fully functioning machine. With gsender and the Altmill you have the full package.
When I built the machine I used the videos and instructions from the website together to help me get it right. A couple hiccups but nothing I couldn’t overcome.
This machine is a beast and easy to learn on. No regrets buying the altmill 4×2.

As a beginner, I am really glad I chose the Altmill. It did take some time to get up and running but it was pretty straightforward. The videos online were helpful. Pretty much plug-and play. No calibration steps or anything like that. It just works.
