My AltMill arrived about a month earlier than I had anticipated. That was awesome. Assembly took less than a day and by day two I was able to mill out some test parts. The video guide along with the documented step-by-step made assembly clear and easy to follow. Customer Service at Sienci is like talking to friends. You didn’t ask – but buying from a Canadian vendor is a big plus too. Quality matters and you provide that. If I ever make it up there I will demand a tour.
I’ve been keeping my AltMill pretty busy making habitats for Owls, bluebirds, and Mexican free-tailed bats. Down here in SE Texas mosquitos are thicker than gumbo and these bats eat a LOT of mosquitos – around 5000 flying insects per night, per bat. People like that. I’ve delivered about 70 bat boxes so far and I have an order for another 100 of them. Garage projects get some time on the CNC also. I have plans to build some beach chairs for sale.
If I can design it and CAM it in AutoDesk Fusion I can build it on the CNC. I’m loving this machine.

When will you have a automatic tool setter for machines without a atc?

As someone who had never touched a CNC or even seen one running in real life , I honestly didn’t expect to be able to handle this beast. But surprisingly, things went smoothly, especially with some help from your side.

Not my first CNC. I have a 2×2 Shark also. I love the Altmill. Great machine for the price. Just the right size. I still have the Vortex in the box. Have not had a chance to check it out yet. Only had a few issues with the installation, but worked thru them. Had a bad E-Stop button ( it was replaced very quick). I bolted my spoil board to the sub board with screws and lock nuts and washers on the bottom, also added two 2x4s under the middle to make it even more ridged.
One concern was with the exposed ball screws on the “y” axis. Had an issue where I leaned in a little to close and the screw grabbed my shirt. I was lucky the machine was moving slow and I was able to get free before I was pulled in. I have added a 2×4 on each side to help shield from the screws. I left room for the gantry to travel freely and room to grease the screws.

Great machine for a beginner. The gsender soft wear is also very user friendly. Love the little follow up calls to make sure things are going good.

I’ve only used it for a limited number of hours. So far, I’m impressed with it’s ease of use.

Good price point. Had issue with stepper motor that arrived damaged. Also had issue with defective/damaged SLB-EXT controller that caused some issues on a couple projects. Customer service was great and got replacements to me immediately.
