Additional information

For dimensioned drawings all of the machines, please download our PDF document. If you’d like to see some tables that our community members have built for their own machines, we’ve got a page on it here: Community Table Builds. If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows you to connect your computer to control the machine.

What materials can it cut? The LongMill is primarily designed for cutting wood but is capable of cutting foam, plastic, and soft metals such as aluminum and brass. Where can I buy end mills and other tooling? End mills and bits are available on sale on our website as well as online such as Amazon and Ebay, or at your local hardware store such as Home Depot or Lee Valley. What software can you use with the LongMill? The LongMill is compatible with dozens of free and paid CAM software. The LongMill is compatible with standard G-code. You can check out our resources page at and look under the software tab. We’ll be hosting webinars and creating additional resource videos to help you learn to design and program your CNC machine. What system requirements are there? You can run your machine off virtually any modern laptop made in the last 5 years running Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. We’ve tested our machine with Intel Celeron and AMD Phenom processors with less than 2GB of RAM with no issues (although it is a bit slow). For any other downloadable CAD or CAM programs that don’t run on the cloud, please check with the software creator for minimum system requirements. What spindles or routers can I use? While we recommend the Makita RT0701/RT0700, you can also use other trim/palm style routers. You will be able to let us know what tool you want to use and we will send you the appropriate mount. Will there be 4th or 5th axis support? In the immediate future, there will not be 4th or 5th axis support for the LongMill. If you would like to implement an additional axis to your machine, we encourage users to try creating their own and sharing it with the community!

I have been able to complete a few simple projects right out of the box. The beginners kits with dust show was worth the extra.

I have been extremely impressed with the Longmill 2 extended bed. The only times there were any issues, it was user error and not a fault of the machine. I knew it was going to be a challenge to get the programming part down, and it has. Important to note I am recovering from a brain injury, and have a tough time with memory. I think having something to focus on is helping in my recovery. I bought bits from you and from your biggest fan, Garret Fromme before I purchased the machine. I didn’t think I would break as many bits as he suggested but he was very right. Thank you for the awesome instructional videos on You Tube. That kind of detail is behind me, but thankfully my daughter was able to assemble it without issue. Glad I got the 48” as well. Saved me from having to buy it later. Thank you!!

Easy to set up, instructions and videos were helpful. I have cut several projects now and am reasonably satisfied. Couple of issues I am working through, the x motion makes a bit of noise and I have noticed when surfacing boards the router is not perpendicular to the spoil board. Even with these couple of issues, projects are turning out pretty good.

I really like this machine! I am new this cnc thing but I like how well it works and the ease of programming. I, by no means want you to think I didn’t make a bunch of mistakes, break bits and ruin projects, that was completely user error. But they were few as I was easily able to figure out my errors. Get job at Sienci!! Will be looking to purchase the Altmill in the future for sure!

From ordering through assembly, it has been a great experience. The machine shipped when they said it would ship, I received what they promised, and when it came time to assemble, Chris’s videos made all the difference in the world. I couldn’t be happier.

The Mk2 is a very robust machine that cuts like going thru soft butter. The IDC bits and also the bits I received with my Longmill are super, very sharp and are lasting a long time. The machine was very easy to put together and it is very stable unit. I am very pleased with the purchase and for the money it is a steal. Would highly recommend this CNC machine.

The Long mill machine is great but the router with the started packet is not so great. After using the router for less then a month, it stop working. I called and put in a ticket but that has stop me from playing with the machine. I have not heard if it will get a replacement yet.

Printed out the assembly instructions. Very clear and easy to follow. Machine seems very accurate and runs as it should. Has a strange squeak in the z axis but I am sure I will figure that out. Very happy with my purchase. Already made a couple small simple project. Can’t wait to see what gets created in the future.

Machine came well packaged out box had some damage but inner boxes were fine.
I have been building Dominoes and engraving the boxes for customers. I have also been doing wa-hoo boards. I have cut a table saw insert for my old school craftsman saw.
I have been also building a adjustable monitor and key board arm to use with by cnc.
