Size

For dimensioned drawings all of the machines, please download our PDF document. If you’d like to see some tables that our community members have built for their own machines, we’ve got a page on it here: Community Table Builds. If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows you to connect your computer to control the machine.

FAQ

What materials can it cut? The LongMill is primarily designed for cutting wood but is capable of cutting foam, plastic, and soft metals such as aluminum and brass. Where can I buy end mills and other tooling? End mills and bits are available on sale on our website as well as online such as Amazon and Ebay, or at your local hardware store such as Home Depot or Lee Valley. What software can you use with the LongMill? The LongMill is compatible with dozens of free and paid CAM software. The LongMill is compatible with standard G-code. You can check out our resources page at www.sienci.com/resources and look under the software tab. We’ll be hosting webinars and creating additional resource videos to help you learn to design and program your CNC machine. What system requirements are there? You can run your machine off virtually any modern laptop made in the last 5 years running Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. We’ve tested our machine with Intel Celeron and AMD Phenom processors with less than 2GB of RAM with no issues (although it is a bit slow). For any other downloadable CAD or CAM programs that don’t run on the cloud, please check with the software creator for minimum system requirements. What spindles or routers can I use? While we recommend the Makita RT0701/RT0700, you can also use other trim/palm style routers. You will be able to let us know what tool you want to use and we will send you the appropriate mount. Will there be 4th or 5th axis support? In the immediate future, there will not be 4th or 5th axis support for the LongMill. Would like the option to upgrade to the spindle on the pack.
    Overall, I love the CNC.

Everything you need to get started. What more can you say. No need to look for the machine, equipment, bits and try to get them all together, much less make sure that they work with each other. The price, for a beginner/intermediate, can’t be beat. Staff is friendly and responsive to questions. Give yourself extra time to put the machine together if this is your first time. Don’t rush. Everything was straight forward, including written instructions and videos. Since this is my first, I don’t have anything to compare to, and with only a first few simple projects under my belt I won’t say this is better than some of the others out there. But, what I will say is that I didn’t have to go broke to get a piece of equipment that will work for me and keep me working for years to come.

It was a super experiance to assemble the longmill. I’m looking forward to build with it. I just struggle a bit with Vcarve pro, but your tutorial video’s are super to learn from. That was initial the reason why I bought a Longmill in Canada, eventhough I live in Belgium. Here in my country, they also sell CNC routers for beginners, but I still chose Longmill. Your service is super good towards us, every question was answered almost immediatly. Thanks for that! 🙂

Everything works great and I use Gsender too. But I think a better/secure connection for the USB is needed. I believe the vibration with some files makes the connection to become intermittent causing me to lose
one or another axis setting, and the cutter goes to the wrong point to continue cutting. I added all axis limit switches but, could use the firmware to recognize the Y2 limits. Thank you

Sienci Labs products are well designed, high quality machines. I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of getting into hobby CNC or small scale production! Assembly instructions were very easy to follow, in fact I thoroughly enjoyed the assembly stage! The only issue I have had so far was binding on the x axis. Adjusting mounting bolt tension on anti backlash nuts as well as decreasing acceleration rates in settings has seemed to fix the problem. The Sienci forum is an excellent source for info on various subjects! And I have no doubt the Sienci team is always there for us! Huge shout out to Sienci Labs !

I am truly enjoying this Cnc journey. The assembly of the Longmill was straight forward and fun. Just enough detail where you get a good sense of how it operates and adjustments that may be required. Eased into the basic operation during the spoil board build and have just been creating basic tools and things such as clamps and bit organizers. The Longmill has been flawless during operation. Sienci Labs website gets a daily visit from me as I have been using the resources to further learn how to safely operate this amazing machine. I am extremely happy with my purchase and the support I have received. Keep up the great work!

Home Run! Slam Dunk! You guys are the best. The machine arrived in perfect shape and was easy to set up. Not quick, but easy. I don’t recall having to redo anything. The value is off the charts. The sample “first projects” provide a great way to learn and get comfortable with the machine. I have to admit there was some apprehension when first using the machine and then I found on your website where you state the machine was engineered so that it cannot break itself. That should be in big bold letters, first thing you see when you open the box.

All the pieces were there (with a few extra nuts and bolts; thanks, even though I was extra careful and didn’t drop any this time). I used the online instructions which were clear and helpful. Just take your time and read through each section completely once before doing anything.

I ordered my Longmill MK2.5 48×30 on Mothers Day and received it about a month later. Packaging was outstanding and everything arrived damage free.

I didn’t put this together right away due to life getting in the way, plus I had to build the bench for it in my basement. I ended up finishing up the 49”x97” table in 3 days (had to assemble it in my basement as it wouldn’t make it down there in one piece).

Next up was putting the CNC machine together. While the instructions were decent, there were a few things that could be improved upon. Mainly, the thing that kept biting me was there would be some assembly instructions and then at the bottom of the page it would say “If you are assembling the 48” Longmill, don’t do the things you just did above and go to page blah blah”. This wasted so much time in assembly and could have been avoided by having that statement at the TOP of the page instead of the bottom.

I have assembled quite a few 3D printers and this process is very similar. I think once some new videos are produced, things will get easier.

I also purchased the T-Track kit and it might have been nice if that would ship separately so you would have it prior to the CNC assembly for making your spoil board. I believe it even said it would ship separately, but it didn’t.

The quality of the parts I received are top notch. The clamps are nice, the dust shoe is amazing (I get ZERO dust using a cyclone separator and the new Dewalt Stealth vacuum). This also easy to attach and remove. I also purchased the IoT outlet switch to power on both the router and the vac when I hit the GO button and that has made things nice!

The SLB, while feature rich, still could come a long way. I put a strip of WS2811 LED lights on the X axis extrusion to help light things up when working and also tie in with the color scheme that Sienci uses (White, Green, Red) for operation information. I used a 12V, 12A external power supply to power these through the RAIL plug on the SLB and the do not work at all. Documentation shows that this should be able to handle up to 3A of power (mine calculate to about 2.8A). I was asked if I would be willing to experiment with the lighting but cutting my strip shorter, but I actually mounted an aluminum channel to the bottom of the X rail and have the LED tape mounted to that with a light diffuser snapped over it all and didn’t want to mess with that. I am going to have to order a 12V relay to use the external power ports in the SLB to power my lights. I also have plans for a ring light under the router. I will let you know how that goes.

Software, while not directly machine related, was another difficult decision. I ended up going with Carveco Maker subscription as there is no limitations on size like Vcarve has. I tried the “full-featured” Vcarve demos for both versions and neither would allow me to save tool paths or export an SVG. So much for full-featured demo! This also helped influence my decision. While I liked the Vcarve interface a little better, the size limitations (24”x24” for desktop, unlimited for Pro) and the price without being able to actually test drive all the features was a no-go for me.

All in all, I am extremely pleased with my purchase and look forward to many years of CNC fun!

During my search for a CNC machine, I watched numerous YouTube videos, but most of the options were prohibitively expensive for a hobbyist like me. Then I came across Garrett’s review on IDC Woodcraft about the Longmill. Not only was it within my price range, but it was also Canadian-made!

I decided to build my own table and then assembled the CNC. The entire process was enjoyable and gave me a deeper understanding of the setup. As expected, I encountered a few issues initially and had to reach out to customer support. Jason Kent responded promptly and was incredibly helpful. Now, my CNC runs perfectly, and I’ve completed many projects!

    Thank you!

This has literally been the best addition to our workshop we could have made. I bought it with the intention of building solid body guitars. The first one is in finish mode now. We have also made numerous signs and are still in learning mode. We recently purchased more bits and have been shocked by the detail we can achieve with the 60 degree V bit.
We are extremely happy with our 30×30 Longmill and would definitely recommend it to others.
Great product at a good price point.

The machine works great on 2D and 2.5D but it does not like 3D files. Some of my 3D files, I have to run on my workbee.
