Size

For dimensioned drawings all of the machines, please download our PDF document. If you’d like to see some tables that our community members have built for their own machines, we’ve got a page on it here: Community Table Builds. If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows you to connect your computer to control the machine.

FAQ

What materials can it cut? The LongMill is primarily designed for cutting wood but is capable of cutting foam, plastic, and soft metals such as aluminum and brass. Where can I buy end mills and other tooling? End mills and bits are available on sale on our website as well as online such as Amazon and Ebay, or at your local hardware store such as Home Depot or Lee Valley. What software can you use with the LongMill? The LongMill is compatible with dozens of free and paid CAM software. The LongMill is compatible with standard G-code. You can check out our resources page at www.sienci.com/resources and look under the software tab. We’ll be hosting webinars and creating additional resource videos to help you learn to design and program your CNC machine. What system requirements are there? You can run your machine off virtually any modern laptop made in the last 5 years running Windows, Mac OS, and Linux. We’ve tested our machine with Intel Celeron and AMD Phenom processors with less than 2GB of RAM with no issues (although it is a bit slow). For any other downloadable CAD or CAM programs that don’t run on the cloud, please check with the software creator for minimum system requirements. What spindles or routers can I use? While we recommend the Makita RT0701/RT0700, you can also use other trim/palm style routers. You will be able to let us know what tool you want to use and we will send you the appropriate mount. Will there be 4th or 5th axis support? In the immediate future, there will not be 4th or 5th axis support for the LongMill. If you would like to implement an additional axis to your machine, we encourage users to try creating their own and sharing it with the community!

Well once the machine was all set up, as someone who is completely new to the CNC world, I feel quite clueless. There’s too many questions I have about running projects, using Gsender etc. that it was all a bit overwhelming. Also I was told that I could use a free software like carbide create to create G code but carbide create isn’t free, the free version doesn’t allow you to download the g code you create so it’s useless. I’m also Anne’s son, my mom sent me a loan to buy the CNC but I’m using it in Brantford Ontario. I would like more personal support and hands on training/instruction, my email is akyriak83@gmail.com

I was very happy with the starter kit. Had everything one would need.

Setup was easy. If I got stuck, your YouTube videos helped along the way.

I had one small problem using the touch plate. The person I talked to in customer service was great. He understood I have no experience and was able to talk me through each step without frustration.

Currently, I’m cutting other peoples designs to get a feel for the machine. In the future I hope to obtain the software programs to create my own (too expensive right now).

I reside in the UK. I ordered the Longmill MK2.5 48” X 30” CNC with starter kit on the 4th January 2025 and it arrived 9 days later which I thought was excellent service. It took me the best part of a day to assemble everything and the process was pretty straight forward – I followed the online instructions and watched a YouTube video showing the assembly. The Longmill cost me £1994 with delivery, but then I had to pay import tax at £417.48. Other costs incurred were £59 (from Amazon) for a step up/step down voltage transformer to convert the 110 to 240V. About £90 worth of MDF to create bench top and spoil board. Approximately £80 on Tee Track, clamps and bench dogs (from Temu). £60 on a shop vac and 5m extension hose. I downloaded the free trial for Carveco and the gSender software and realised I now needed a better laptop than my very old one in order to run the software, so I added £270 to my shopping list and bought a Dell laptop. The whole cost for me to set up and get running was just shy of £3000. (Bargain considering the quality of kit I received)!
Then came the very large learning curve! There are plenty of tutorials on Carveco on YouTube and 2 months in I now feel reasonably adept with the software and I have made some very nice items.
The Longmill seems very sturdy and I have had no issues with it what so ever. I was already proficient in CAD and found it reasonably easy to convert images into vectors, but adding all the various tool paths, preparing the timber and setting the job up is quite a process – sometimes I think I should make a check list like pilots do before hitting go. One time I set everything off and forgot to switch the router on!
I’m really glad I paid a little more for the 48” X 30”. The only cons I have come across is I cannot seem to link remotely to gSender with my phone or ipad. I have followed the instruction to the letter, but it won’t recognise my devices.
My woodworking hobby has now stepped up multiple levels! I am a very lucky boy in a giant sweat shop!

The long mill was a Sersen to put togather.Ever thing was very simple. It Workes very well so far.
Some things i do not like about it is the Z will not pull up
when you push the E-stop button.
When you close the top on the lap top you have to restar
everything to get G-Sender too work. It takes way long for g-sender to come back on. When you cut on the L way
the side are cut at angle . When i did a tram test was ok on the X way the L was out by 1\4″ cannot see to changes
    . Thank you Richard

Being that I don’t have full use of my right arm I some how managed to put a slight bend in one of the Y screws. All seems to be working but haven’t done enough to verify accuracy.

I had no experience with a CNC machine although I do have a laser and know Lightburn somewhat, which helps. Assembly went smooth except my machine was missing the SLB and USB cable. Contacted you and went over and picked them up (it happens; no problem). Watched assembly videos before and during assembly. The only problem I had was that I had to retap the bolt holes to install the X axis.
Customer service has been great. I downloaded a Gsender update and it defaulted to the wrong firmware. Sent you a video and explanation, got a reply promptly and problem solved.
So far I have been making signs, crib boards, fingerjoint boxes, Xmas trays, wavy Canadian flags, rolling trays ect. Two-sided bowls and inlays are next.
Having fun with the machine. I’m retired so it keeps me busy and using my head.

    Barry Brown.

I recently purchased a Longmill from Sienci Labs, and the entire experience has been exceptional. From the order process to setup, everything was smooth and user-friendly.

The ordering process was straightforward, and I found numerous resources that helped me get started as a beginner. Communication after the purchase was excellent, with timely updates on my order status.

Putting the machine together was an enjoyable experience; the instructions were clear and thorough, making assembly a breeze. I particularly appreciated the first projects provided by Sienci Labs, which allowed me to see the machine in action quickly without a steep learning curve for the creation software.

The resources on their website are well-organized and comprehensive. I was able to find answers to my questions quickly, thanks to the clear layout and detailed information available.

Overall, I highly recommend buying from Sienci Labs. They offer great support, excellent resources, and a fantastic product that is both fun and easy to use.

Received the 30 x 30 mk2 fairly quickly. Assembly took about one day. Instruction was simple to follow, only problem i had was when I was installing last stepper motor, one hole in the y axis gantry was not threaded. Patiently tapped hole, finished assembly. Surfaced spoil board. Just did simple projects first, coasters, various signs, went well. Looking at various video’s at the moment to learn how to make project files. Using vcarve desktop to start with.

Great product. Steep learning curve for someone like me who had no experience with cnc’s. But everyday I continue to learn and watch many videos and gain my knowledge.

Perfect kit for someone just getting into CNC as hobby/DIY and at a great price! Great customer support as well as the most video tutorial and setup help of any company I have ever purchased from.
