Really pleased with spindle and dust shoe. One area to consider: perhaps a cover for top of spindle, or a foam filter insert, to prevent dust and aluminum shavings from entering the air ingress holes on the top. Seems like foreign object damage (FOD) could really reduce lifespan or damage the spindle.
Loving power and good choice…only downside, NOT A SIENCI PROBLEM, is that it complicates power on/off automation. Some workarounds exist, but realize that was my choice with 2.2kW vs 1.5kW (at 120V).

Right away I broke the Dust Shoe (my fault). Second day after assembly my VFD failed, power switch would not turn on. Fill out an online form and within a week I had a new VFD. My opinion is Sienci’s customer service and support is outstanding. The new VFD left Sienci the next working day it took UPS 5 days to get it to Colorado.

This 2.2KW spindle makes the altmill really shine if you need that extra power for faster cutting. If you have the power requirement like the 220V outlet, it’s worth spending the extra, it’s better to have more power and not use it than to need more power and not have it 👍

Great addition, however the rubber cover for electrical connection on spindle should be rotated so it does not interfere with z-axis movement (if spindle is mounted with logo facing forward). A 30 degree rotation of the rubber cup should do.

Fantastic Spindle! I have completed approximately 40 jobs/60ish hours and have had no issues. The dust shoe does exactly what it’s supposed to do. After a long run job, minimal chips are present.

Very quiet robust spindle. Compact and suitable for this machine. I like it. The power cord to the VFD is short so I had to buy a longer one from Amazon to get to my 220 outlet. That might be a good option to have when purchasing from Sienci so you are good to go when you get the spindle. Nothing worse that waiting for a power cord so you can fire it up! I never thought to ask up front.

One other issue I had was one of the magnets was not glued in properly to my dust shoe but I glued it back in. I do wish the upper part of the dust shoe was longer in the bore section that tightens down to the spindle with 1” bit stick out I barely have enough of that to get grip on the spindle. Also it would be nice if that rode on a really small linear rail so it would move up and down with the brushes downward force to just barely stay in contact with the work piece.

The dust shoe works good, but I think it would be better if it was clear. I add a 18″ piece of clear pipe coming out of the top then connected my flex hose. This keeps the hose up out of the way.
