Description

Turn your ideas into a reality with the LongMill Benchtop CNC MK2.5

The LongMill MK2.5 is an improved version of the LongMill MK2, with changes including:

  • The new SuperLongBoard
  • Spring Loaded Anti-Backlash Nuts

…and other minor changes.

The LongMill helps you take your woodworking and fabrication to the next level. Its range of workable materials includes any species of wood, a variety of plasticssoft metals like aluminum and brass, and a variety of machinable foams and waxes for model making or metal casting.

We designed the LongMill to be the best hobby CNC router in its class, offering rigidity, and reliability. With large extruded aluminum rails, fully supported Y-axes, 1/4″ steel gantries on all axes, high power NEMA 23 motors, and high precision MG-12 type linear guides on the Z-axis, the LongMill MK2 is the most powerful CNC router in its class at its price point.

This kit comes with:

  • All rails, gantries, fasteners, lead screws, and other hardware parts to make a complete LongMill
  • All electronics, including power supply, controller, drivers, and motors.  Please Note*Power supplies are 110V only, (North America).  If you live in a country with 220V/240V power, our standard LongMill MK2 power adapter must use a transformer with a rating above 300 watts to convert their power to 110V/120V
  • Assembly instructions and resources
  • Excellent lifetime technical support during the life of your ownership

Tools and supplies needed for assembly (not included in the kit) are

    • 3/4″ MDF sheet to act as a working surface
    • An electric drill or screwdriver
    • A laptop or computer
    • A router and end mills (for purchase separate on our store)

For routers, we recommend the Makita RT0700/RT0701. It’s reliable, powerful, speed-adjustable to a large range (10-30K RPM), and its uniform outer body allows for versatile z-axis mounting. We’ve been using the Makita on our CNC machines for years. The LongMill MK2 comes free as standard with a 65mm router mount, which is compatible with the Makita RT0700/RT0701 and most variations of this router design. If you wish to use a different size router or spindle, please check out the other sizes that we offer.

*Routers that we supply will be 110V only (North America). If you live in a country that uses a different voltage, please purchase a router in your region.

The LongMill comes with free software and is compatible with dozens of other paid and free software. Try our Toolchain Wizard to get a quick recommendation for software that may work best for you.

Additional information

Weight 60 lbs
Dimensions 8 × 10 × 41 in

Size

For dimensioned drawings all of the machines, please download our PDF document. If you’d like to see some tables that our community members have built for their own machines, we’ve got a page on it here: Community Table Builds. If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows you to connect your computer to control the machine.

Add-ons

You can include add-ons to improve the functionality of the LongMill. These are all optional. For additional add-ons, please see our Add-On section of our store.

Makita RT0701 Router

We recommend using the RT0700/RT0701 Makita trim router with your LongMill (we only sell the 110V version). This router comes with speed control from 10,000 to 30,000RPM and has 1.25HP of power. This router is compatible with 1/4″ shank tooling and can be adapted to 1/8″ shank tooling using a 1/4″ to 1/8″ collet adapter.

Dust Shoe

Our Z-axis independent, magnetic dust shoe allows you to attach standard vacuum hoses to your CNC machine, allowing it to suck up dust as it’s cutting, making clean up easier and keeping dust out of the air. This dust shoe is adjustable in the Z direction, and the front bristles and vacuum hose can be easily detached to make it easy to change bits.

Touch Plate

Our 3-axis touch plate allows you to set the ‘origin’ or starting point of your cutting tool very accurately based off the surface of the material you’re going to be cutting. Place the touch plate onto the corner of the material to locate the cutting bit in both X, Y, and Z-directions to start your cutting job, or use it to set the Z-height of the tool to accomplish tool changes on more complicated projects.

End Mill Starter Set

Our End Mill Starter Set comes with a basic set of end mills to get your started for many projects you might have in mind. Each pack comes with:

LongMill MK2 Dust Shield

Prevent dust and debris from getting into your Y-axis lead screws with our dust shields designed for the LongMill MK2. Each pair of dust shields are made from formed sheet metal which are easily installed between the front and back feet of your machine using M5 hardware. Please note that the ACME lead screws and Delrin Anti-backlash nuts used on the LongMill are designed to work in dusty conditions and the dust covers are not required for general use. Please note that this dust shield only fits the LongMill MK2 30×30.

Inductive Sensors

Inductive sensors allow users to add homing and limit switch functionality to their machines. We only recommend this kit to advanced users

My experience with my Longmillmk2 has been challenging. As a 70 yr old person taking on this machine is quite rewarding. Although I’m not the smartest cracker in the package, I’m learning something every day. I’ve had my longmill set up for several weeks but haven’t put to operation yet. I’ve been doing lots of youtube tutorials and trying to soak up the basics so I can get started. Learning to use the software is quite a challenge. I use Garrett Fromme tutorials alot which he goes into extensive details. You guys along with vetric tutorials are great too. The challenges are out there, and if I can do it, so can anyone else. Chris i appreciate your extensive help in showing us all how to assemble the machine. To all of you at Sienci Labs, Thanks again!! , Wayne (Amarillo Texas)

I think it’s a very nice machine . Customer service was great. Assembly instructions could be a little more friendlier for the large 50 inch long mill. Still learning have made some trays picture frame stands and small boxes with covers. Baby steps…

Amazing design, works like a charm and you can’t bet the price. Online community is great, this is one company to watch out for. Online assembly videos and manual were spot on, so far I used the machine for some laser engraved cutting boards, 3D relief carvings and a couple of signs. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone.

I did the assembly over a few days, purposely. I did this so I wouldn’t feel overwhelmed right off.

I was surprisingly intimidated at first, but after reviewing some YouTube videos, I was going non-stop.

So far, I haven’t had any problems that I couldn’t solve or realized what I did wrong that ended up with the outcome that I did.

Mine is actually the 48X30 @ 2300 CAD
Having no experience at all with CNCs it was a big learning curve. The videos on you tube and your website helped a lot. After many hours of watching software tutorials and then the assembly video things went pretty good.
With limited space I had to design a tilting table to reduce the machines footprint when not in use. Table complete it was time to mount the Longmill Mk2. The process went very well.
I had gone into gSender and made some some adjustments to the software that a video had recommended and that gave me some trouble connecting the computer to the machine. Resetting to the defaults solved that.
The computer and Longmill were now talking to each other but were speaking different languages. I went on to the forum and got help with this problem. I had set everything to inches, but the longboard speaks metric, so my 6″ first cut was 6mm instead of 6″. Once the setting for the saved files was set to metric everything worked just fine.
I have only made 2 things and they are both in foam so I get all the bugs out (like remembering to turn on the router). My next project will be in wood.
I highly recommend the Longmill Mk 2.

Overall I’m happy. All of the issues I’ve had have been resloved by the community. There are still some things id like changed. I wish there was better support for wireless controlerl usage. In order to get my controller to work i had to shut off soft limits which I really like having on. Also, when my controller shuts off from idling, and when I turn it back on it won’t auto connect to gsender. I don’t find these things to be deal breakers. Im happy overall. I am excited to see where the rotary axis will take my machine, and also the super board.

I was a hobbyist woodworker with about 5 years of experience doing wood projects but no experience with CNC machines. I have a tech background in computers which helps but no experience in design etc, I like the machine. It went together fairly easily. I followed Chris’s videos as I set it up pausing them as needed. O made some careless mistakes but thanks to support was able to fix them and complete the setup. Your support is very responsive they always respond quickly which is important when you need help before you can progress. To date due to personal delays, I only completed the fun projects that had existing gcode for downloading. I am looking forward to creating some of my own projects as I learn the Vcarve Desktop software. Over I like the and the company and the Longmill you make customers feel like an important part of the organization

Greatly enjoying the Mk2 LongMill router.
The steps to assemble the unit was good. The only problem I had was setting up the track wheels on the Y axis. A bit of a learning curve using the Vetrics software but using YouTube videos has helped greatly on using this software. Overall great machine, price and support.

This is a truly amazing machine. It’s built like a Sherman tank. By assembling the Mark 2 myself, maintenance is a breeze. I know every part of this piece of equipment. And even my wife loves it. I no longer stumble around the house looking for something to do. Actually, I haven’t seen my wife in weeks. I enjoy most, designing funny signs. The best money I’ve ever spent. Thank you Sienci.

I’m a custom tile designer. I was getting my models with 3d resin printer before production. But resin printer has limited print dimensions so i wanted to switch to CNC machines. I did not know anything about CNC machines before. After i found Sienci Labs, i wanted to give it a try with 30×30 mk2. After watching their videos and great community channels, assembly was so easy and fast. I had problem with one of Y lead screw. Customer service was helpful and they sent me immediately new one. Their GSender software is easy to understand and use. As a beginner cnc user, result is great. For tiles i need precise dimensions and i get always great models with my mk2. Definitely i recommend this cnc. You won’t regret. Thank you Siensi Lab.

Assembly went very well. The online instructions were easy to follow. I was a CNC programmer for 3,4 and 5 axis machines before retiring 6 years ago. I have been making signs, crosses and anything else I can think of.

I am brand new to CNC machining, the instructions were very clear for how to set up. Very well done!

I had an issue a couple weeks back where the machine would randomly stop and I sent a message to customer service, they sent me some ideas to fix this and I haven’t had any problems since.

The only thing I would recommend is making the anti-backlash bolt on the horizontal axis (behind the router) easier to screw in, right now is is very difficult to adjust this.

Assembly straightforward.. Performance is great. Increasing complexity of projects going well. Thanks

Very happy with the machine itself so far. I put some stuff together incorrectly but that was ME not reading the directions carefully enough. My biggest issues have been the design software (Carveco for now), learning it, figuring out how to use it, learning HOW to ask the right questions in Facebook groups, trying to comprehend feeds, speeds, plunge rates, chiploads, etc. I’ve made a few things so far and I learn more on every project. But my expectations were that it would be a lot easier. Again, that’s on ME. The Longmill does everything it is supposed to do and once it’s been adjusted properly, it is fascinating to watch it work.

Can not say anything but good, with the on line install information , made it full proof, straight forward install no problems, unit works great a little bit of a learning curve with the software but with Gsender made it easy to run programs on the Long mill. Highly satisfied

I bought a cnc laser about a year ago and fell in love! I knew I had to have a cnc router. After some convincing of the wife I got my order in. I did a lot of research and thought the Longmill would be the best bang for the buck. I was right for once!. This is an incredible machine! I have been a mechanic for 30yrs, So it took me 4hrs to get it up and running and it has rarely stopped since. To any one getting into cnc I would truly recommend the Longmill!. Get the software you plan on using first and get use to it, It helps a lot. Thank everyone at Longmill, Great product!!
