Description

Turn your ideas into a reality with the LongMill Benchtop CNC MK2.5

The LongMill MK2.5 is an improved version of the LongMill MK2, with changes including:

  • The new SuperLongBoard
  • Spring Loaded Anti-Backlash Nuts

…and other minor changes.

The LongMill helps you take your woodworking and fabrication to the next level. Its range of workable materials includes any species of wood, a variety of plasticssoft metals like aluminum and brass, and a variety of machinable foams and waxes for model making or metal casting.

We designed the LongMill to be the best hobby CNC router in its class, offering rigidity, and reliability. With large extruded aluminum rails, fully supported Y-axes, 1/4″ steel gantries on all axes, high power NEMA 23 motors, and high precision MG-12 type linear guides on the Z-axis, the LongMill MK2 is the most powerful CNC router in its class at its price point.

This kit comes with:

  • All rails, gantries, fasteners, lead screws, and other hardware parts to make a complete LongMill
  • All electronics, including power supply, controller, drivers, and motors.  Please Note*Power supplies are 110V only, (North America).  If you live in a country with 220V/240V power, our standard LongMill MK2 power adapter must use a transformer with a rating above 300 watts to convert their power to 110V/120V
  • Assembly instructions and resources
  • Excellent lifetime technical support during the life of your ownership

Tools and supplies needed for assembly (not included in the kit) are

    • 3/4″ MDF sheet to act as a working surface
    • An electric drill or screwdriver
    • A laptop or computer
    • A router and end mills (for purchase separate on our store)

For routers, we recommend the Makita RT0700/RT0701. It’s reliable, powerful, speed-adjustable to a large range (10-30K RPM), and its uniform outer body allows for versatile z-axis mounting. We’ve been using the Makita on our CNC machines for years. The LongMill MK2 comes free as standard with a 65mm router mount, which is compatible with the Makita RT0700/RT0701 and most variations of this router design. If you wish to use a different size router or spindle, please check out the other sizes that we offer.

*Routers that we supply will be 110V only (North America). If you live in a country that uses a different voltage, please purchase a router in your region.

The LongMill comes with free software and is compatible with dozens of other paid and free software. Try our Toolchain Wizard to get a quick recommendation for software that may work best for you.

Additional information

Weight 60 lbs
Dimensions 8 × 10 × 41 in

Size

For dimensioned drawings all of the machines, please download our PDF document. If you’d like to see some tables that our community members have built for their own machines, we’ve got a page on it here: Community Table Builds. If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows you to connect your computer to control the machine.

Add-ons

You can include add-ons to improve the functionality of the LongMill. These are all optional. For additional add-ons, please see our Add-On section of our store.

Makita RT0701 Router

We recommend using the RT0700/RT0701 Makita trim router with your LongMill (we only sell the 110V version). This router comes with speed control from 10,000 to 30,000RPM and has 1.25HP of power. This router is compatible with 1/4″ shank tooling and can be adapted to 1/8″ shank tooling using a 1/4″ to 1/8″ collet adapter.

Dust Shoe

Our Z-axis independent, magnetic dust shoe allows you to attach standard vacuum hoses to your CNC machine, allowing it to suck up dust as it’s cutting, making clean up easier and keeping dust out of the air. This dust shoe is adjustable in the Z direction, and the front bristles and vacuum hose can be easily detached to make it easy to change bits.

Touch Plate

Our 3-axis touch plate allows you to set the ‘origin’ or starting point of your cutting tool very accurately based off the surface of the material you’re going to be cutting. Place the touch plate onto the corner of the material to locate the cutting bit in both X, Y, and Z-directions to start your cutting job, or use it to set the Z-height of the tool to accomplish tool changes on more complicated projects.

End Mill Starter Set

Our End Mill Starter Set comes with a basic set of end mills to get your started for many projects you might have in mind. Each pack comes with:

LongMill MK2 Dust Shield

Prevent dust and debris from getting into your Y-axis lead screws with our dust shields designed for the LongMill MK2. Each pair of dust shields are made from formed sheet metal which are easily installed between the front and back feet of your machine using M5 hardware. Please note that the ACME lead screws and Delrin Anti-backlash nuts used on the LongMill are designed to work in dusty conditions and the dust covers are not required for general use. Please note that this dust shield only fits the LongMill MK2 30×30.

Inductive Sensors

Inductive sensors allow users to add homing and limit switch functionality to their machines. We only recommend this kit to advanced users

It’s a very user friendly machine, set up was easy with the video on your website! It works well and I haven’t had many problems other than mistakes on my part. I do plan on buying a second machine to keep up with my customers orders!! It has already paid for itself!!

I’m currently still assembling it. It should have come with an inventory sheet in the box so we can verify that we have everything. I downloaded the assembly pdf because it was easier to follow. It was well done but unfortunately some items were different with more holes to choose from. I always chose the wrong holes and had to disassemble and reassemble. I was missing nylon washers. It was only after watching the video that I learned they were optional. I was missing the 10mm screws, not optional. I ordered some more just to expedite the process. I should have it done by the weekend. I will give another update at that time.

I’m satisfied with my machine. An upgrade you should work on is to add memory to the controler. That way the machine would be less relying on the usb câble.

I actually like this machine. It is pretty sturdy and well made and I bought out. Being as green as green can get, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The only thing that I knew was: I like wood working and from what I’ve seen on utube cnc was cool. Well I got one. Assembly was easy as long as you listen to the video. Now, I wrote the company because nothing was working for me. So, I took a step back and thought it out and the problem was me. Once I fixed ME,lol everything was fine. The company after I had wrote them they reached out to me several times. Big Kuddos. Customer service is a huge plus when it comes to purchasing an item that you don’t know about. It makes you feel good inside that you made the wright choice.

I finished bolting / connecting everything together yesterday. Delighted with the detailed instructions. I started to tune up the rollers and secure / square the CNC to the bench but ran into a few issues. I think it was just the end of a long day. I will watch more videos today and try again tonight.

As someone who did a ton of research on the front end before purchasing I can say I believe I made the right choice. I love this machine! Starting with the packaging that was done to protect the router in transit to the labeling of all the boxes, well done. The illustrated instructions were professionally created and were clear and concise. The machine itself is solid. The frame is a beast. It is heavy and very durable. With the first few projects I have created, the machine runs smooth and precise. The resources available on the website, from the forum to the documentation and videos are amazing. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone looking for a hobby CNC router for their woodshop.

Everything works perfectly, love the videos, very happy with purchase. I would have liked a deeper dive into programs for newbie CNCers, people with CNC experience know what to look for, but I found easel was the easiest program to get started on. Keep up the good work, make us Canucks proud!

Huge upgrade from my 3018 machine. The machine is very robust for a “hobby” level machine. I very much enjoy assembling just about anything, so the assembly process was rather simple to be honest. Just follow the online instructions closely, and you will have no issues. I haven’t had to contact the customer support, but I hear they are quite good. If you do have issues, im betting it’ll be handled quickly. My only advice is be thorough and take your time with adjustments. Both on the physical machine, and the software based adjustments. That way maintenance will be much simpler when the time comes. But that applies to any CNC machine. Over all it’s an amazing machine, especially for the price. The only way to make it better would be linear rails, closed loop stepper motors, and ball screws. If they ever offer those as upgrades, i’ll be in line to get them in a heart beat. Even without those, I dont think any other machine in the same class is comparable.

30 X 30. This thing is so cool. I have it built, as well as the rolling table. It was not really hard to put together but I did goof up a couple times and had to correct myself. The instructions are very well written and easy to follow.
I have O experience operating a CNC machine but I sell metal cutting tools and carbide to machine shops all over this area. My daughter is going to be the operator as she is very good with computers, but like me O experience.

Customer service is 1st rate all the way.

We hope to be up and running in 2 more weeks. We plan on doing all kinds of things. This machine is going to be a great addition to my woodshop where I do furniture, epoxy river tables and items on the lathe. Looking forward to getting some things done so I send some pictures your way.

I looked at several machines looks like I made a good choice!

For a hobby Machine it seems to be a great tool. But the “robot heads” and plastic wheels will wear out on regular basis and need to be replaced at some point. I don’t like that so much it seems like it will be a real pain when that time comes. Right now using Gsender and vetric pro. I am making multilevel text signs.

Hey everyone, I ordered the LongMill due to the reviews of customers as well as Garrett from YouTube doing some tests and reviews. I received my machine and took a couple casual evenings to put together for myself, I have a mechanical background. I played with the machine and made about 10 trays for practise following the videos from Carveco. The machine handled well, other than one issue with a stepper motor. I ordered parts and sent an email Saturday just to notify them of the issue, but didn’t ask for any thing in return. I received a call Monday morning from their customer support to follow up with me, they asked me for some pictures and I sent. I was notified that the parts I orders would be refunded as well as the shipping.
Blown away from the customer service and so far at how the machine is working for me I am very pleased. I would definitely recommend this machine to others.
Thanks for your help with my questions

    Cheers
    Jeff Bates

Excellent machine. Instructions, video, and pdf are clear and well put together. Getting tension correct on the gantry wheels is probably the most frustrating part of the build and ongoing maintenance. The machine runs excellently. The only errors I have had are of the ‘User’ variety. I was also very happy to be supporting a Canadian company! Thank you Sienci.

My Longmill 48×30 was delivered about a week early which was a pleasant surprise. I did have about a month to study the setup manual and learn the Vcarve software. Well I have been working the Longmill almost daily and have had excellent results so far. There is a big learning curve on Vcarve, but I take it a step further with each project I create, and I learn what I need to learm to complete that project. I did buy a 3-D camera and hope to make my own obj. files with it so I can do more 2-sided jobs with the router. Setup time for me was about six hours and I made sure the router base was square and level perfectly (within a couple of thousandths of an inch) using a machinist level and machinist square. I know I didn’t have to be that fussy, but with an engineering background, I knew the projects would come out better in the long run.
One mistake I made was thinking that the dust collector would go up and down with the router on the z axis. Wrong! On my first project, I set the dust collector even with the bottom of the router bit and started routing a sign. On the first plunge the router collet hit the dust collector and knocked if off its magnets and proceeded to cut up the clear plastic window on the dust collector before I could have a chance abort the mission. Now I have to see if I can buy a new plastic window, but at least now I know enough to set the bottom of the dust collector bristles just at the top of the work piece before starting the router.
My first project was a sign engraved in mdf material followed by a galloping horse set inside a bowl. Then came the wedding ring set in a concave dish which I will give to my son and his soon to be wife on July 15th of this year. After that was the 2-sided dolphin, then a flying mallard duck and after that was wildlife duck scene.
Customer service was excellent so far and I am very happy with my Longmill and at 70 years of age, I think my Longmill will last outlast me. Thank You Sienci team for great service and a great product. Sincerely, Rick Tanguay

No bracket for my 43mm Mafell router, and the sensor kit can’t be easily mounted (I’ll need to design parts and 3D print them for Z and Y axes). Also, haven’t finished assembling, already see rust on my Z rails. The machine needs work but it’ll do what I need it to, just didn’t expect to have those issues.

I absolutely love my LongMill. Very easy to set up and it’s been a game changer in my final projects. I started out with FoxAlien and it’s nice to be away from lost steps and errors.
Top tier product for the price and would and have recommended LongMill to my friends.
