Description

Turn your ideas into a reality with the LongMill Benchtop CNC MK2.5

The LongMill MK2.5 is an improved version of the LongMill MK2, with changes including:

  • The new SuperLongBoard
  • Spring Loaded Anti-Backlash Nuts

…and other minor changes.

The LongMill helps you take your woodworking and fabrication to the next level. Its range of workable materials includes any species of wood, a variety of plasticssoft metals like aluminum and brass, and a variety of machinable foams and waxes for model making or metal casting.

We designed the LongMill to be the best hobby CNC router in its class, offering rigidity, and reliability. With large extruded aluminum rails, fully supported Y-axes, 1/4″ steel gantries on all axes, high power NEMA 23 motors, and high precision MG-12 type linear guides on the Z-axis, the LongMill MK2 is the most powerful CNC router in its class at its price point.

This kit comes with:

  • All rails, gantries, fasteners, lead screws, and other hardware parts to make a complete LongMill
  • All electronics, including power supply, controller, drivers, and motors.  Please Note*Power supplies are 110V only, (North America).  If you live in a country with 220V/240V power, our standard LongMill MK2 power adapter must use a transformer with a rating above 300 watts to convert their power to 110V/120V
  • Assembly instructions and resources
  • Excellent lifetime technical support during the life of your ownership

Tools and supplies needed for assembly (not included in the kit) are

    • 3/4″ MDF sheet to act as a working surface
    • An electric drill or screwdriver
    • A laptop or computer
    • A router and end mills (for purchase separate on our store)

For routers, we recommend the Makita RT0700/RT0701. It’s reliable, powerful, speed-adjustable to a large range (10-30K RPM), and its uniform outer body allows for versatile z-axis mounting. We’ve been using the Makita on our CNC machines for years. The LongMill MK2 comes free as standard with a 65mm router mount, which is compatible with the Makita RT0700/RT0701 and most variations of this router design. If you wish to use a different size router or spindle, please check out the other sizes that we offer.

*Routers that we supply will be 110V only (North America). If you live in a country that uses a different voltage, please purchase a router in your region.

The LongMill comes with free software and is compatible with dozens of other paid and free software. Try our Toolchain Wizard to get a quick recommendation for software that may work best for you.

Additional information

Weight 60 lbs
Dimensions 8 × 10 × 41 in

Size

For dimensioned drawings all of the machines, please download our PDF document. If you’d like to see some tables that our community members have built for their own machines, we’ve got a page on it here: Community Table Builds. If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows you to connect your computer to control the machine.

Add-ons

You can include add-ons to improve the functionality of the LongMill. These are all optional. For additional add-ons, please see our Add-On section of our store.

Makita RT0701 Router

We recommend using the RT0700/RT0701 Makita trim router with your LongMill (we only sell the 110V version). This router comes with speed control from 10,000 to 30,000RPM and has 1.25HP of power. This router is compatible with 1/4″ shank tooling and can be adapted to 1/8″ shank tooling using a 1/4″ to 1/8″ collet adapter.

Dust Shoe

Our Z-axis independent, magnetic dust shoe allows you to attach standard vacuum hoses to your CNC machine, allowing it to suck up dust as it’s cutting, making clean up easier and keeping dust out of the air. This dust shoe is adjustable in the Z direction, and the front bristles and vacuum hose can be easily detached to make it easy to change bits.

Touch Plate

Our 3-axis touch plate allows you to set the ‘origin’ or starting point of your cutting tool very accurately based off the surface of the material you’re going to be cutting. Place the touch plate onto the corner of the material to locate the cutting bit in both X, Y, and Z-directions to start your cutting job, or use it to set the Z-height of the tool to accomplish tool changes on more complicated projects.

End Mill Starter Set

Our End Mill Starter Set comes with a basic set of end mills to get your started for many projects you might have in mind. Each pack comes with:

LongMill MK2 Dust Shield

Prevent dust and debris from getting into your Y-axis lead screws with our dust shields designed for the LongMill MK2. Each pair of dust shields are made from formed sheet metal which are easily installed between the front and back feet of your machine using M5 hardware. Please note that the ACME lead screws and Delrin Anti-backlash nuts used on the LongMill are designed to work in dusty conditions and the dust covers are not required for general use. Please note that this dust shield only fits the LongMill MK2 30×30.

Inductive Sensors

Inductive sensors allow users to add homing and limit switch functionality to their machines. We only recommend this kit to advanced users

I’ve always loved woodworking. I’m also a software engineer. This CNC machine has married my two passions together. It is amazingly easy to use, very robust, and does more than I would have imagined. One of the top 5 purchases of my lifetime.

Also, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the support and community around this machine. It had great video instructions on step by step assembly. It went flawless. And knowing how the machine is put together has allowed me to continue to calibrate as necessary as I’ve used the machine.

All in all, 10 out of 10. Great job!

This machine was a joy to put together, the videos that Chris made plus the written instructions were so very easy to follow. I really appreciated the extra parts and though I never needed to call for help it was a comfort to know it was there if needed. Most of the time I was wondering why this is all going together so well, like when will the other shoe drop! I am just now cutting some MDF to get started on a spoilboard. I ran the machine through some dry runs from Garret Fromme and the machine is working very well. Thankyou so much, I could go on and on with my experience so far but I just wanted to say thanks for now.

What a beautiful machine, it is fully assembled now. I’m 78, having fun like crazy. My first project was my pain plate. I put inserts at 2 inches. And my 90 degree point 0. I got a fair amount of eccentricity and quantit. of fixing blocks. I love GSender and its surfacing. I had a little experience with my little 3018, which I will never part with. My first real project is the 3D engraving of a 24″ high cross. The scale of this project proposed a thickness of 46 mm. I therefore learned to make a lowering of the engraving plane. Only one small problem, GSender which stops working in the middle of a project. By account, a quality USB connection cable solved all that. I also have the community on Facebook.
    Thank you for everything.

Hi, Longmill is great now had to work out a few little bugs. The only problem I have is getting my limit switches to work right there is no videos or instructions how to set them up. Jason did give me a few notes in an email but I haven’t got them to work right yet And the backlash of X I’ve had to file it down because they made it too thick still don’t think I have it right yet

Fairly easy setup. Took some time but overall the steps were very easy to follow. Have done a few projects now. The learning curve wasn’t that bad for me, having working in the CADD world for most of my adult life. You tube is also has been very useful learning the tricks and trades of using a CNC machine. Having a bit of an issue with the tracking wheels, trying to find a happy medium. Even when fully open, their still hard to turn by hand. So not sure what’s happening there. Overall, great machine!!

For an individual with no background in CNC, setup was overall smooth. Customer Service was great when I had questions about packaging. At this time, I’ve been working with programming but have only made one sign so far, but it’s turned out great!!

Sorry it took so long to reply Chris, I purchased the LongMill 48 x 30 for a Christmas gift. I started assembling it the next day and with the help of your videos was able to complete the assembly quickly. I was having trouble with the x axis lead screw jamming. I kept trying to tune it to no avail. I must say I was getting frustrated, but I kept at it. When I adjusted it to be more square I finally was able to get it to work properly. Your resources area was a great help. I also purchased the Auto zero touch plate. It worked great the first time but then stopped working. Again the resources area on your website helped me again. I tested the continuity of the wiring and was able to find the problem. The ground wire at the magnet was not making contact. I removed the screw and slightly bent the connection ring, reassembled it and I was in business. I made a spoilboard today and the LongMill preformed wonderfully. Thank you so much l’m loving it. Jerry

The cost of this machine is money well spent compared to other machines. It’s very sturdy and the instructions for assembly were outstanding. The sender works very well and I bought vcarve pro and am thrilled with how user friendly it is. However, I didn’t mind paying the $80 for shipping as it would have cost me that to go pick it up but when I went to buy a 1/4 in compression bit for $29 and the shipping was $15 , I was slightly annoyed and will buy elsewhere. I think Sienci labs has made a great and very user friendly machine. Thanks guys

I’ve had my Longmill 30×48 set-up for a month now and getting good results with it. I make custom signs, plaques, home decor, and other items. The team at Sienci has been awesome with the couple of technical questions I have had. All in all, I would make the purchase again. Keep up the good work!

Love this machine so far. Once i got over a few hiccups everything is great. Only thing I dont like is the amount of wobble in lead screws. I suggest that for the bigger 48×30 the x axis should be a linear rail.

Assembly went smoothly, had a little binding when run to back on y axis, went through all adjustments and now works great.made a few signs ,mainly in learning stage and getting garage/ shop set up,also joining users group at local rockler store

I had problems with the dust boot nut fitting in the slot.
I had/have problems with the wire coming out of the magnet connector of the probe.
I am still making a spoilboard and as soon I started a X-axis grinding noise started happening and gets worse every time I proceed so far.

Could not be happier with the Longmill. The assembly process was very straightforward with excellent manuals and videos for each stage in the process. The quality and fit of all the parts made it very easy to get the frame assembled very square before refining with the built it calibration routine in gSender. It took a day to go from nothing to a flat spoil board. The electronics came together well and hook up to the PC and software went without a hitch. I downloaded Vectric 2D the next day and was cutting a simple bowl by the end of the day. What really helps is the community pages with lots of great information and continuous help from Sienci like the speeds and feeds doc which is really helping me achieve great results so quickly.
