Description

Turn your ideas into a reality with the LongMill Benchtop CNC MK2.5

The LongMill MK2.5 is an improved version of the LongMill MK2, with changes including:

  • The new SuperLongBoard
  • Spring Loaded Anti-Backlash Nuts

…and other minor changes.

The LongMill helps you take your woodworking and fabrication to the next level. Its range of workable materials includes any species of wood, a variety of plasticssoft metals like aluminum and brass, and a variety of machinable foams and waxes for model making or metal casting.

We designed the LongMill to be the best hobby CNC router in its class, offering rigidity, and reliability. With large extruded aluminum rails, fully supported Y-axes, 1/4″ steel gantries on all axes, high power NEMA 23 motors, and high precision MG-12 type linear guides on the Z-axis, the LongMill MK2 is the most powerful CNC router in its class at its price point.

This kit comes with:

  • All rails, gantries, fasteners, lead screws, and other hardware parts to make a complete LongMill
  • All electronics, including power supply, controller, drivers, and motors.  Please Note*Power supplies are 110V only, (North America).  If you live in a country with 220V/240V power, our standard LongMill MK2 power adapter must use a transformer with a rating above 300 watts to convert their power to 110V/120V
  • Assembly instructions and resources
  • Excellent lifetime technical support during the life of your ownership

Tools and supplies needed for assembly (not included in the kit) are

    • 3/4″ MDF sheet to act as a working surface
    • An electric drill or screwdriver
    • A laptop or computer
    • A router and end mills (for purchase separate on our store)

For routers, we recommend the Makita RT0700/RT0701. It’s reliable, powerful, speed-adjustable to a large range (10-30K RPM), and its uniform outer body allows for versatile z-axis mounting. We’ve been using the Makita on our CNC machines for years. The LongMill MK2 comes free as standard with a 65mm router mount, which is compatible with the Makita RT0700/RT0701 and most variations of this router design. If you wish to use a different size router or spindle, please check out the other sizes that we offer.

*Routers that we supply will be 110V only (North America). If you live in a country that uses a different voltage, please purchase a router in your region.

The LongMill comes with free software and is compatible with dozens of other paid and free software. Try our Toolchain Wizard to get a quick recommendation for software that may work best for you.

Additional information

Weight 60 lbs
Dimensions 8 × 10 × 41 in

Size

For dimensioned drawings all of the machines, please download our PDF document. If you’d like to see some tables that our community members have built for their own machines, we’ve got a page on it here: Community Table Builds. If you’re looking to properly size a space to put your machine or are making a dedicated table, ensure that you leave enough room for the LongMills control box and any other peripherals that you might be using like a laptop, monitor, keyboard, etc. The control box is roughly 150mm x 280mm, has holes so that it can be easily screwed or mounted to any surface, and has a USB port on its left side which allows you to connect your computer to control the machine.

Add-ons

You can include add-ons to improve the functionality of the LongMill. These are all optional. For additional add-ons, please see our Add-On section of our store.

Makita RT0701 Router

We recommend using the RT0700/RT0701 Makita trim router with your LongMill (we only sell the 110V version). This router comes with speed control from 10,000 to 30,000RPM and has 1.25HP of power. This router is compatible with 1/4″ shank tooling and can be adapted to 1/8″ shank tooling using a 1/4″ to 1/8″ collet adapter.

Dust Shoe

Our Z-axis independent, magnetic dust shoe allows you to attach standard vacuum hoses to your CNC machine, allowing it to suck up dust as it’s cutting, making clean up easier and keeping dust out of the air. This dust shoe is adjustable in the Z direction, and the front bristles and vacuum hose can be easily detached to make it easy to change bits.

Touch Plate

Our 3-axis touch plate allows you to set the ‘origin’ or starting point of your cutting tool very accurately based off the surface of the material you’re going to be cutting. Place the touch plate onto the corner of the material to locate the cutting bit in both X, Y, and Z-directions to start your cutting job, or use it to set the Z-height of the tool to accomplish tool changes on more complicated projects.

End Mill Starter Set

Our End Mill Starter Set comes with a basic set of end mills to get your started for many projects you might have in mind. Each pack comes with:

LongMill MK2 Dust Shield

Prevent dust and debris from getting into your Y-axis lead screws with our dust shields designed for the LongMill MK2. Each pair of dust shields are made from formed sheet metal which are easily installed between the front and back feet of your machine using M5 hardware. Please note that the ACME lead screws and Delrin Anti-backlash nuts used on the LongMill are designed to work in dusty conditions and the dust covers are not required for general use. Please note that this dust shield only fits the LongMill MK2 30×30.

Inductive Sensors

Inductive sensors allow users to add homing and limit switch functionality to their machines. We only recommend this kit to advanced users

I came over from the Carvewright world. The Carvewright is a good machine, but it has its limits (as do all tools). I am a first generation Carvewright as well as a more modern generation Carvewright CNC customer… so I’ve been doing this for awhile. I purchased a LongMill MK2 30×30 to expand my ability to make cool stuff.

Assembly was pretty straight forward and I enjoyed the process very much. It is rare that you find a product that is so well supported with videos and documentation… and this was actually a lot of fun to assemble.

My “struggles” have come with adapting my knowledge of Fusion 360 to Gcode. With my other CNC, I drop STL files from Fusion 360 into their software and am able to carve pretty much what I see. For the LongMill, it is not that straightforward… but I see the potential. This has been a learning process… and a bit of experimentation.

If there is any room for improvement, perhaps some more specific videos on using Fusion 360 with the LongMill MK2 would be helpful. Once I get all of this worked out, perhaps I’ll make some!

The Laserbeam using LightBurn is a breeze! THAT is fun! I can’t wait to see what I can make using that technology.

In the end, this has been an excellent experience and I can’t wait to see where it leads!

Chris, you and your Team are doing an absolute 100% AWESOME job!!!! I really love this machine and the things I can make with it. I only thing you can improve on is the that you prepare customers for customs and let them know that things don’t always go smoothly ( me for one) you keep doing what your doing and the machines will keep flying out of your building. Thanks for all your hard work.
    Larry

I have been extremely satisfied with my purchase of my long mill. It is stable, accurate and a joy to use. I am still in my learning stages with it, but so far it has provided quality routes with any mistakes being my own. I typically build and design guitars and the 30×30 long mill is enough to do any instrument or neck. I am excited to see where this takes me but so far, I would highly recommend this for anyone interested.

This is my first purchase of a CNC machine but I have many years using CNC compatible software. With that said , I am not an expert with these machines but know what to look for. I am happy with my purchase and found the assembly pretty intuitive. I did follow the companies youtube videos and with exception to the rambling narrative, it was easy to follow. I feel like the manufacturing is of good quality and should last for a few years. I use this machine as a hobby and not professionally so the demand on the machine is low.

I had no previous experience with CNC but I have 55yrs in industrial maintenance along with 35 years as a hobby woodworker. I had decided to try CNC as an addition to my woodshop. From the machines I looked at I chose the Longmill because Sienci Labs seemed to have good customer service and a thriving community forum. The machine appeared to be well built, had leadscrews and the size I was looking for along with a good price point. I found the buying experience seamless with the machine arriving within the timeframe stated. On opening the machine packaging gives you an insight into company philosophy. Packaging was very good with minimal extra space in the box. This shows that some thought and effort went into packaging design and packaging process. Assembly was super easy, with good written instructions and also access to assembly videos if needed. I have found the quality of the machine to be excellent, the axis rails are very strong and possibly overly so considering the hobby market it is designed for, machine operation is smooth with minimal noise. Issues I have been up and running for about 7 weeks, and being now retired have used the machine for some amount of time each day. I have made numerous carvings, some signs and knicknacks. The only issues I have experienced were some connection issues that were windows related, and a tight leadscrew on one y axis that was fixed by reaming out the mounting holes for the antibacklash nut, otherwise any other issues have been of my own making. At the time of purchasing I went ahead and also purchased the Laser module not sure whether I would actually use it or not. Little did I know, I have used the laser extensively since installing it 5 weeks ago. I am completely satisfied with my purchase and would if the need arose purchase again and would definitely recommend to others. Sienci builds a good machine that can compete with other machines that are way above its price.

Its my first CNC machine so i personaly cannot compare it to other machines but a good friend of mine, who runs CNC machines costing +100K$ at his job took a look at the machine and was pretty impressed what you get for the money with this machine.
Machine Assembly was quite easy, didn`t run into any problems while building the machine. However once it was mounted on the table i realized that my first runs for flattening some work pieces with the surfacing tool in gSender were not producing good results. Went over the manual again and didn´t find any problems that could explain this. After doing a lot of digging around on different cnc related websites, i found out that this is a tramming problem of the router itself.
With some suggestions i found in various CNC message boards, i could solve this and have now a pretty solid setup.
I think it would be a good idea to add a small tramming chapter to the manual as i think this is just as important to get right as it is to mount the machine correctly on the table.
For now i only have done some smaller projects like milling some text or some generic shapes into some test pieces.
The end goal and the reason i bought this machine however is to build guitars as i am a guitar player of 20+ years and 5 years ago started building electric guitars as a hobby and bought the CNC machine in adding to this task.
Since guitar building is quite a complex task this will still take a lot of time to figure out everything and get this done with good results but so far the journey has been quite fun and enlightened.

I’ve been doing CNC for about a year on another brand machine. I feel “comfortable” with my Longmill. Some arthritis presented a challenge with all the small screws. Happy to say I did it. Any problems with assembly were mine. It went together very well. Assembly manual & video were excellent. I ordered the wrong sensor and found the staff most helpful in resolving that.
I am currently using my machine to familiarize myself on projects that I’m using to mentor two youth at Organized Kaos (we mentor youth in the trades and life) Other than that it’s cutting boards , signs and live edge things. I’m mostly retired from doing signs & engraving and this CNC suits my needs well.

Assembly was pretty straight forward. The YouTube video was very helpful and help me work at my own pace. The only issue I had was the supplied Allen wrenches were a little soft to my liking but I must admit I tend to really torque down on things. I simple use some hardened steel ones I had. I love my Longmill !!!

    Thank you for asking.

I am very pleased with the customer service I received when I ordered my Mark II 30 x 30. This is all new to me. I found the assembly instructions very resourceful and laid out in a straight forward process. Had my machine up and running in a day or so. I am slow and cautious lol. I cut the demo patters provided and have not done much else since, last week. I am about to start and online course tomorrow, Monday. To learn VCarve and a more one on one approach to jump start my experience and get past the otherwise sloooooow learning curve.
Hopefully, I will be turning out interesting and fun projects in a week or so. More to follow……..

It would have been beneficial if the Mark II came with a starter endmill set. Mine had 2 vbits to try. I do appreciate it though. I ordered the starter pack afterwards.

    Thank you Sienci Labs

    Cheers

Not a new CNC Router user. I have found the Mk2 Extended version to be quite robust. However, I have been, for years, a Mach3 user. I find the Grbl software inadequate for most of the operations I use. That being said, I think that a new user will find g-sender will work well (for you).
Thank you for designing and selling the Mk2 Machine. I have, both a 30X30 Mk1 and a 30X48 Mk2. I have Mach3 installed on both and am quite happy with this operating system and the machines.

These guys must employ a psychic! Every question I had or part that I needed was answered or supplied in the setup package and or online material. I also chose to redesign Z axis gantry to accept an AMB spindle and received enthusiastic support and advice. It all works really well. Cheers to the Sienci group for a job well done.

I think it is a great machine. I enjoyed the putting it together and getting it to work. I have found the “you can get free software“ to be a little frustrating. I am not trying to run a business. I just want a hobby machine for Fun. I’m not positive that I am using the correct software yet. I’m still learning and exploring. The main thing I want to make is simple signs. If you have advice to what software would be the best and not cost me $300. Let me know .

I love it! I had no experience going into this. The video assembly guide was a tremendous help. I’m still experimenting and have made plenty of mistakes but I learn something new on each and every project. This has been a really satisfying experience and I am soooo glad that I’ve started doing this. I really am enjoying the laser add on for engraving things.
