LongMill MK3 Beginner’s Kit

Price range: $1,615.00 through $2,015.00

The LongMill MK3 Beginner’s Kit is your all-in-one, plug and play, desktop CNC. Designed with newcomers in mind, this starter kit gives you the rigidity and reliability you need at a price point you can work with.

The MK3 has a 4.6″ z-axis cutting clearance, 49″ x-axis (48×30) or 32″ x-axis (30×30) cutting width, and 32″ y-axis carving length. It can handle materials ranging from softwoods to hardwoods, and plastics and foams to acrylics and even aluminum. It runs on a closed-loop stepper motor system, and comes equipped with a grblHAL-based CNC controller. Its linear rail system allows for production-level performance not found in similar hobby-level machines. It comes equipped with everything you need to start carving on day one. It’s easy to set up too. Purchasing this kit also saves you roughly $100 CAD/$100 USD vs buying the accessories individually.

Each Beginner’s Kit includes:

  • A 30×30 OR 48×30 LongMill MK3 CNC Machine
  • An SLB-LITE 32-bit grblHAL Controller with E-stop
  • An AutoZero Touch Plate
  • A LongMill MK3 Dust Shoe
  • An AutoSpin T1 Router
  • A Starter End Mill Set

The LongMill MK3 represents the best entry-level, hobby CNC in terms of performance, design and customer support. It’s the fastest, most rigid CNC machine in its size and price category, and comes pre-assembled so you can be up and running within an hour, right out of the box.*

FAQs

I’m unsure what to buy, so what’s the difference between the LongMill MK3 and the AltMill?
We built the LongMill MK3 with entry level/beginners on a budget in mind. The AltMill is aimed more towards prosumers and semi-industrial use. For a full comparison, check out our video:

What software can you use with the LongMill?
The LongMill MK3 is compatible with dozens of free and paid CAM software programs. We also have a video offering a full breakdown on all some of the most popular software options. Otherwise, most of our customers use  Vectric VCarve Pro or Carveco for the CAM and gSender for the g-code sender.

What computer do I need to run the LongMill?
We recommend the gControl Panel Computer. Otherwise please see our page on computer system requirements.

What spindles or routers can I use?
While we recommend our AutoSpin T1, you can also use other 65mm trim/palm style routers. Your LongMill MK3 comes with a standard 65mm mount. You can also use our 1.5KW spindle but its current dust shoe is large and will reduce the cutting area.

Is the LongMill MK3 compatible with the Makita RT0701?
Yes it is, and all LongMill MK3s will come with a 65mm mount. Please note that you may need to use an extension cable for the Makita RT0701 to pass through the drag chains.

What are the power requirements?
We recommend allocating two 15A 110V/120V circuits — one for the router/spindle and dust collection system, and the other for the machine and a computer.

  • The LongMill MK3 consumes 96W and runs off 110/220V,  24VDC 4A, Class 2 Certified power supply
  • The AutoSpin T1 Router consumes 800W at max load and runs off 110V (not compatible with 220V)
  • The 1.5KW LongMill Spindle Kit consumes 1500W at max load and runs off 110V

What are international power requirements?
Power supplies are dual voltage to accommodate 110V (North America) and 220V (International).  If you’re using the LongMill MK3 in another country, you may need a plug adapter to accommodate a NEMA 5-15P plug. Routers we supply will be 110V (North America). If you live in a country that uses a different voltage, please purchase a router in your region.

What are the motor specifications?
The LongMill MK3 uses 1.2NM NEMA 23 closed-loop motors. See details and drawing below.

  • Motor frame size: NEMA 23
  • Motor torque: 1.2NM
  • Voltage: 24-48VDCNEMA 23 Motor Schematic

What controller does the MK3 come with?
The LongMill MK3 comes with the SLB-LITE, a newly redesigned version of our original SLB.  It uses a 24V power supply, and can support motors (open and closed-loop) with external drivers.

What materials can the LongMill MK3 cut?
The LongMill MK3 can cut these materials reliably, with the proper cutting tools, feeds and speeds, lubrication/misting and/or cutting strategies:

  • Woods: Softwoods, hardwoods, plywood and  MDF
  • Plastics: Acrylic, PVC, HDPE, Polycarbonate and  ABS
  • Composites: Carbon Fiber, Dibond and ACM
  • Non-Ferrous Metals: Aluminum, brass and copper
  • Foams: High-density sign foam and insulation foam

What else will I need to get started to use the machine?

  • Computer or laptop
  • Work surface (e.g. MDF sheets)
  • Screw drivers, standard bits or drill for assembly
  • Dust collection system

Will the LongMill Mk3 work with an ATC?
No. Our ATC system is only compatible with AltMill branded machines.

Do you have payment plans for the LongMill?
At this time, no. Full payment is required at time of purchase to get your order into the queue. We ship on a first-come, first-served basis. If you choose local pick-up, you are subjected to the queue order and cannot get your machine quicker.

Do you ship internationally?
We do not have distribution centres but we ship internationally from our office via UPS.  Shipping costs vary in Canada and the US, typically in the range of $100 USD per machine, and European shipping in the range of $200-$300 USD. Far reaching international locations may cost over $1,000 USD. You are responsible for any taxes, duties and brokerage fees. Shipping estimates are provided at check out.

Will I be able to upgrade my LongMill MK1, MK2 or MK2.5 to the MK3?
Practically speaking, no. The LongMill MK3 is a complete rework of the design, so the cost difference between buying a new, full machine and doing an upgrade would be negligible.

If I buy a 30×30, can I upgrade to a 48×30 later?
Yes! We will eventually make the parts required to increase the size of the X-axis to convert a LongMill MK3 30×30 to a 48×30 available. However, we do not currently have specific plans to have them available at the time of launch.

Does the LongMill MK3 support Sienci Labs’ accessories?
Yes, any accessories from the LongMill MK2.5 and prior will work with the LongMill MK3, with the exception of dust shoes, which have been designed specifically for each version of the machine.

Can you tile/pass sheets through the back of the machine?
Definitely. Just like all our machines, the rear of the LongMill MK3 is open and you can pass larger sheets through the machine. It should be noted that you may need to position or route the Y motor cable in a way to prevent interference with material if you do choose to do tiling.

Can you mount the LongMill MK3 vertically?
Yes! With the substantially stronger motors and larger lead screws, we expect essentially no performance drawbacks in mounting your machine vertically.

What will support look like for owners of LongMill MK1, MK2, and MK2.5 machines?
Support will continue to be largely the same: we have stockpiled between 3-5 years of spare components to support our users of older machines. Open source design files and specifications are available through the respective resource pages of each machine to allow users to source alternative components if necessary. Otherwise, technical support will remain the same for all versions of the machine.

Is the SLB-LITE controller available for purchase as a solo item?
As of May 2026, it is not available as a solo item for purchase. It is expected to be available as a solo item once we begin shipping machines in the fall of 2026.
