Tool Length Sensor Kit

$115.00

A Tool Length Sensor (TLS) is a time-saving, precision measuring device that greatly enhances your CNC workflow. It maintains your z-axis zero position across multiple tool changes by measuring the relative offset of your tool length, whether you’re using different tools or changing the stickout of your tool in the collet. It’s essential for businesses or hobbyists looking for more consistent and reliable cutting jobs,  and it greatly speeds up set up.

It’s a must have device that accounts for variations in tool length and stickout, so during tool swapping repeat cuts remain accurate and consistent.

The inductive sensor kit for LongMill MK1-2.5 is required to operate a TLS. Buy Now.
gSender 1.6.2 version is required to operate a TLS. Download Now.
The TLS is included in the ATC Kit.

Compatible with any size or version of the AltMill; any size LongMill MK2.5 (requires inductive sensor kit); any size LongMill MK3; as well as other CNC brands with proper controller support. See FAQs.

Each order comes with one (1) tool length sensor kit.

Description

Benefits of a TLS:

  • Greatly improves productivity for CNC projects that use multiple cutting tools by removing the need to manually re-zero each time the tool is changed, and allowing multiple tools to be run from one single gcode file.
  • Break-away magnetic interface prevents damage to tools or machine in the event of any errors during tool length probing
  • Hardened 45HRC 4140PH probe disc ensures a durable tool probing surface and makes certain wear does not affect probing accuracy
  • Optical sensor provides high accuracy and repeatability, unaffected by temperature like other sensors
  • Flexible mounting allows the sensor to mount directly onto your AltMill or the wasteboard of your LongMill, other CNC other machines.*

Compatible with:

  • Any size or version of the AltMill
  • Any size LongMill MK3
  • Any size LongMill MK2.5 (requires inductive sensor kit)
  • Any size LongMill MK1 or MK2 with an upgraded SLB controller (requires inductive sensor kit)
  • Other CNC brands with proper controller support. See FAQs.

FAQs

What is a Tool Length Sensor (TLS) and what are its benefits?
A TLS is a probe, fixed to your CNC machine, used to measure the length of your cutting tool. When running a CNC project which uses two or more different cutting tools, the machine will automatically probe the length of the new tool each and every time it’s changed. This not only ensures even more precision and accuracy but it saves you time and convenience from manually ‘re-zeroing’ a tool each and every time.

What’s the difference between a TLS and a touch plate?
A touch plate is meant to help set your zero position on your cutting material, whereas a tool length sensor (TLS) is only meant to measure and compensate for length changes of your cutting tools (before and after its been changed.) Both a touch plate and TLS make shop life easy as they automate much of the tedious zeroing tasks required for your CNC projects.

Is the Sienci Labs TLS Kit compatible with any CNC machine?
Essentially, yes. It’s compatible with any CNC machine controller that can supply a 5-24V to a tool length sensor, and can operate with a normally closed (NC) tool length sensor input. The TLS is designed to allow mounting onto any flat, wasteboard surface. Major brands that have controllers that will support a TLS include Onefinity, Shapeoko, Genmitsu, Carbide 3D and many more.

Do I need an Automatic Tool Changer to use a TLS, or will it work with any router or spindle?
A TLS will work with any spindle or router, as long as your controller can supply a 5-24V to a tool length sensor, and can operate with a normally closed (NC) tool length sensor input. Our SLB and SLB-EXT and upcoming SLB-LITE and SLB-EXT V2 will support a TLS.

Warranty

The Tool Length Sensor has a 120 day warranty once it arrives at your door.

You may cancel an order if it has not shipped yet, please contact us if you wish to do so. We do not accept returns for TLS kits that have already shipped.
